What is Trona Labs?

We believe in
baking soda.

A company built on one conviction — that natural deodorant can actually work, if it uses the one ingredient that eliminates odor instead of masking it.
The mineral · Trona

Trona is a sodium carbonate mineral (Na₂CO₃·NaHCO₃·2H₂O) formed at the bottom of ancient evaporating lakes. Almost every ounce mined today comes from a single place: Sweetwater County, Wyoming — the dried-up remains of Lake Gosiute, a shallow inland sea that expanded and contracted for four million years during the Eocene epoch.

In 1938, a Mountain Fuel Supply crew drilling for oil and gas near Green River pulled up a core sample and found thick, glass-clear beds of a mineral no one had expected. Underground mining began in 1947. Today, five companies operate shaft mines 600 to 2,000 feet below the high desert.

Our belief

Natural deodorant can actually work.

If it uses baking soda.

Refined trona — pure sodium bicarbonate — is the only naturally-derived ingredient we know of that neutralizes the bacteria that cause body odor, instead of layering fragrance on top to hide it. Every other “natural” approach we tested came up short. Baking soda didn’t.

So we built a company around it.

What we make

One ingredient. Everything we make.

Trona Labs exists to prove that the simplest, oldest answer is still the best one. Every product we ship is built around the same magical mineral — cleaned, refined, and formulated so it works on skin the way it has worked in kitchens and refrigerators for a century.

We’re not adding to the “natural” market. We’re arguing with it.
